The wispy pop outfit the Lightning Seeds were essentially the solo project of noted producer Ian Broudie. Born August 4, in Liverpool, England, Broudie first emerged as a member of Big in Japan, a product of the same Liverpudlian post-punk scene that gave rise to Echo & the Bunnymen, the Teardrop Explodes, and Icicle Works.

Liverpool is where The Lightning Seeds struck first, a Brit pop formation that was intended as a kind of studio band for singer/songwriter Ian Broudie – but soon the band was sufficiently charged to go out touring. The story goes that Broudie misunderstood the text .

Taking what he learned from his days in Big in Japan and his '80s production work with A-listers Echo & the Bunnymen, Ian Broudie created the Lightning Seeds project to better serve his cravings for shameless, lush pop.
